DeMythif.AI Winter School 2027
The DeMythif.AI Winter School is organised by DeMythif.AI, the doctoral programme managed by the DataIA Institute at Université Paris-Saclay. Launched in 2024 and co-funded by the European Union under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions COFUND programme, DeMythif.AI supports 25 doctoral researchers recruited internationally through an open and competitive selection process and hosted by laboratories at Université Paris-Saclay and its partner research organisations.

As its name suggests, the programme aims to demystify the "black box" that artificial intelligence often represents. Three key questions underpin the entire programme: how can uncertainty be quantified, to what extent can we explain how AI works, and how resource-efficient can AI solutions be? In practical terms, this means training a generation of doctoral researchers capable of explaining precisely what AI models do, where their limitations lie, and what resources they require. Alongside their individual research projects, the fellows follow a shared training programme combining courses, workshops and secondments with academic and industrial partners, in line with the core principles of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions: research excellence, international mobility and close engagement with the non-academic sector.
Topics covered
Our Winter School reflects the research themes of the DeMythif.AI doctoral programme. Over five days, the programme will explore four areas developed in collaboration with its academic and industrial research partners:
-
Uncertainty modelling
-
Simulation-based inference
-
Bayesian networks
-
Machine learning and HPC resource management
These topics lie at the intersection of statistics, computer science and disciplines that use AI as a research tool, ranging from energy and climate science to physics and healthcare. They will be taught by researchers who work on these subjects every day, across universities, national research institutes and industry. The detailed programme and list of speakers will be announced progressively as they are confirmed.
Beyond the lectures, the week will place a strong emphasis on interaction and exchange: poster sessions where participants can present their own research, round-table discussions, career conversations with established researchers, and a programme of networking activities designed to make the most of the time spent together on campus.
This Winter School is intended for PhD candidates (preferably in their first or second year) working either on artificial intelligence itself or on its applications in other disciplines (physics, chemistry, biology, etc.), whether based in France or abroad.
A limited number of places are also reserved for postdoctoral researchers, as well as engineers and researchers working in industry, who wish to benefit from a week of in-depth training on these topics and engage with specialists in the field. They follow the same application procedure and are assessed according to the same selection criteria; a specific registration fee applies. In total, approximately 50 to 60 places are available, shared between DeMythif.AI fellows and participants selected from the applications received. Selection is carried out by the Winter School's scientific committee on the basis of a CV and a motivation letter.
At Institut Pascal, on the Paris-Saclay campus
The Winter School will take place at Institut Pascal, on the Université Paris-Saclay campus in Orsay. Université Paris-Saclay is one of Europe's leading research universities and lies at the heart of a major scientific and academic ecosystem bringing together universities, grandes écoles and national research organisations within the same region. Institut Pascal is the university's dedicated venue for extended international scientific gatherings, specifically designed for the kind of experience this Winter School aims to provide: a purpose-built auditorium, catering facilities and several meeting rooms available throughout the week to encourage discussions and emerging collaborations around a whiteboard.
Applications open on 5 November 2026!
Applications will open on Thursday, 5 November 2026. A link to the application form, the full application guidelines and practical information about the Winter School will be made available here, on this webpage. Applicants will be required to submit a CV and a motivation letter, and indicate whether they are applying as a PhD candidate, a postdoctoral researcher or a private-sector professional. Registration fees apply to participants from outside Université Paris-Saclay, with the amount depending on their status.
