Jean-Philippe Lagrange

Jean-Philippe Lagrange has taken up his post as head of the Inria center in Saclay, effective October 1, 2024. Appointed by Bruno Sportisse, CEO of Inria, he succeeds Jean-Yves Berthou. Jean-Philippe Lagrange is a graduate of the École Polytechnique engineering school and holds a PhD in applied mathematics and information science from the Université Paris-Dauphine (Ceremade), obtained in 1992. Jean-Philippe Lagrange began his career as a researcher and then laboratory manager at the Institut national de l'information géographique et forestière (IGN), before moving on to head a unit at the Direction de la recherche de la Direction Générale de l'Armement (DGA), before becoming IGN's International Director in 2000. He then became scientific attaché in Washington. For the past 15 years, he has held research management positions successively at IGN, Cerema and Institut Mines Telecom (IMT). As Director of Research at ITM, Jean-Philippe Lagrange developed and led the Institute's scientific strategy. He worked with the players in the ESR ecosystem (ministries, academic partners, agencies, conferences, research alliances, universities and schools) to implement strategic orientations, promote collaboration between different disciplines and encourage cutting-edge research in the fields of digital technology, engineering sciences (materials, processes, energy, etc.) and SHS (management, economics, etc.). He has led the development of scientific roadmaps for national communities (ITM and beyond, within the Allistène framework), and contributed to strengthening ITM's presence in major national (including PEPR and France 2030), European and international collaborative R&I programs, as well as with players in higher education and research. In addition to his research and management activities, Jean-Philippe Lagrange is involved in teaching and training young scientists. He has also contributed to the organization of national and European conferences, and sits on several international scientific committees.
